Widely hailed as a genius pianist, Arcadi Volodos has built up a reputation as one of the most sensational pianists of the modern era. His recitals as a soloist or in the studio are characterised by his flawless technique and the sheer depth and eloquence of his musical talent.
Born in Leningrad in 1972, Volodos started out by studying voice and direction. It wasn’t until 1987 that he began to devote his time to the piano at the conservatory of his home city. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Galina Egiazarova. He also spent time in Paris with Jacques Rouvier and in Madrid at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía with Dimitri Bashkirov.
Arcadi Volodos made his historic debut recital at the renowned Carnegie Hall in the autumn of 1998. Recorded with Sony Classical, the album was entitled Arcadi Volodos Live at Carnegie Hall. The first recording of Volodos for Sony Classical was titled Piano Transcriptions. Both recordings enjoyed a raft of different international awards and accolades and received rave reviews.
Thanks to the success of his debut album and his acclaimed appearances as a recitalist, Volodos started to collaborate with the world’s most prestigious orchestras and concert halls, including the Philharmonic Orchestras of Berlin, Munich, New York, London, Israel, Chicago, Boston and Rotterdam and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
