The Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ foundation is aware of the necessity to collaborate in educating a new public and for this reason in the current season it is foreseen to celebrate several performances especially directed at school children. This pedagogical goal can be seen in the performance of Mendelssohn’s Travels and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, by Arval Producciones.
This concert, performed by the Belo Bartok Orchestra under the helm of José Brito, four actors and two dancers, unites two theatral works: the Overture nº 21 by Felix Mendelssohn inspired by A midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas inspired by homonym work by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Various movements of the Symphony nº 4 in A major, op. 90 (Italian) and the Hebrides Overture, op. 26, by Felix Mendelssohn are also to be performed.
Three mysterious characters, one of which is a sorcerer’s apprentice, are determined to relive endless adventures from the overture nº 21, A midsummer Night’s Dream. This will lead them in the search of a magic chest which, according to them, will reveal the powers of music. This is a fantasy-filled scintillating story which will bring the children closer to the music of Mendelssohn and Dukas.
