The Teatro Pérez Galdós Foundation adds a new performance to the current 2008-2009 programming. On 10th April 2.009, right in the middle of Easter, the Gran Canarian coliseum presents the third act of Parsifal, by Richard Wagner, performed by the St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and Chorus and conducted by the maestro Valery Gergiev. This performance has been especially organised as a tribute Rafael Nebot, director of the Teatro Pérez Galdós until his passing away last August. Parsifal was one of Nebot’s favourite operas and is traditionally programmed to be performed on Good Friday in many of the most important European theatres.

Parsifal Parsifal is a musical drama in three acts by Richard Wagner, which he called "Sacred Festival". This opera is based on the medieval epic poem (from 13th century), Parzival, by Wolfram von Eschenbach, on the life the Arthurian knight Parzival and his quest for the Holy Grail. Wagner conceived this work in April 1857 (specifically on Good Friday of that year) but it was not completed until 25 years later, with its premiere at the Bayreuth Festival in 1882.

In summary, the libretto of the opera narrates the store of Parsifal, who has to retrieve the Holy Grail from the hands of the corrupt magician Klingsor and his beautiful slaves, one of whom, the evil Kundry, tries to seduce him, in order to save the King from a serious illness. Parsifal is victorious because he resists the temptation to be seduced by carnal desires, due to his autarchy and asceticism.
