Barry Douglas, one of the most versatile and brilliant pianists of today, is to open the Pianist Series, organised by the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation in collaboration with the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Philharmonic Society. This initiative shows the harmony that exists between the two entities and the desire of both to work together in the interest of creating quality musical programming in the Gran Canarian capital city. The Pianist Series is to offer a special dedication to Chopin and Schumann, due to the celebration of the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of both these composers.

Barry Douglas (born in Belfast, North Ireland) has been developing his exceptional international solo career ever since winning the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky International Piano competition in Moscow in 1986. He is Music Director of the chamber orchestra Camerata Ireland, which he founded in 1999. The aim of this Chamber Orchestra, entirely composed of exceptional Irish musicians, from North and South Ireland, is to celebrate the extraordinary wealth of the Irish musical talent. Barry Douglas also serves as Artistic Director of the Clandeboyle Irish Festival and the International Piano Festival in Manchester.

As a soloist, Barry Douglas performs internationally, collaborating regularly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestras of Atlanta, St. Petersburg, Melbourne and Ulster, to name but a few.
