More than one thousand people took part in the celebration of the third anniversary of the reopening of the Teatro Pérez Galdós

The Open Day celebrated this Wednesday 14th April was a great success

An exhibition of body make-up with motifs of Néstor, of wardrobe and clothing and the performance by the Grupo Lírico, were some of the surprises prepared for the visitors

This Wednesday 14th April, on the Open Day organised by the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation to celebrate the third anniversary of the reopening of the coliseum, there were more than one thousand visitors. There was a steady flow of people between 10:00 and 18:00 hours, whose expectations were satisfied as they wanted to get to know all the corners of the emblematic building of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

People of all types (employees, unemployed, pensioners, students…) and of all ages (adults, youths and children) came to the Teatro and were honored with diverse surprises, for example, the visitors were able to enjoy the performances by the Grupo Lírico, a trio composed of two voices and a pianist who interpreted various opera arias.

Furthermore, the exhibition of body make-up on a model depicting various motifs of Néstor’s paintings by the artist Jorge Leal was a great success and also the exhibition of wardrobe and clothing from three significant operas: La hija del Cielo, from the reopening of the Teatro in 2007; Tannhäusser, represented last season by Katherina Wagner; and Tosca, currently in the framework of the 2010 Alfredo Kraus Opera Season.

The Open Day was made possible thanks to the involvement of all the employees of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation, the collaboration of the Amigos Canarios de la Ópera (ACO) (Friends of the Pérez Galdós) and firms such as El Corte Inglés, Eventos, Mos+Mos and Ten Eventos.

A special thank is given to the voluntary guides of the Teatro as their effort and affection was fundamental in making this initiative a success. The near to thirty guides making up the collective ensures the maintenance of the guided visit service. They were offered a cocktail at the end of the Open Day as a gesture of the appreciation for all their good work.
