The leading actors in Mamma Mia! are in awe of the Canarian audience

The performances of the musical Mamma Mia! have already started in the Teatro Pérez Galdós. 32 performances are to be held until 29th January. The leading actresses, Mone (substituting Nina), Marta Valverde and Rita Barber are delighted to be able to perform before the “spectacular” Canarian public. After passing through Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the cast of Mamma Mia! aims to continue focussing all their energy to offer the Gran Canarian public the best essence of the most successful musical of all times.
Inspired by the magic of the timeless songs of ABBA, the wonderful story of the family and friendship of the writer Catherine Johnson, takes place on a paradisiacal Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter starts up the search for her real father. She gets the three men together on the island from her mother’s past who visited her 20 years previously.
There are currently more productions of MAMMA MIA! worldwide than of any other musical. More than 40 million spectators have viewed MAMMA MÍA! throughout the world and 10,000 people watch it every night.
MAMMA MIA! has taken in 2,000 million dollars worldwide and has had its première in more cities than any other musical in history. It has been performed in more than 160 cities since its debut in London 10 years ago.
There are currently 10 production of MAMMA MIA! including London, Broadway, Denmark, Thailand and Japan. Mamma Mia! has four productions currently on tour in Spain, Italy, United Status and the United Kingdom which have weekly takings of 8 million dollars.
The musical was in the Teatro Lope de Vega of Madrid for 30 months and had more than one million spectators, making it the most viewed performance in the year 2005, according to the statistics published by SGAE.
The show set off for Barcelona and broke all records at the Catalonian box office. The Barcelona Teatre Musical performed the musical for fourteen months with more than 400,000 spectators. A tour of Spain then started and has now reached Gran Canaria.
With the musical composition and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, MAMMA MIA! is written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The head of choreography of MAMMA MIA! is Anthony Van Laast, production designer led by Mark Thompson, lighting designer is Howard Harrison, sound designers are Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken and the musical, additional material and arrangements supervisor is Martin Koch.
MAMMA MIA! is a production of the production company STAGE ENTERTAINMENT, a company that has already been at the helm of many great musicals of this country. Mamma Mia is, by arrangement with Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.
