The finest jazz trio performance worldwide is to perform in the Teatro Pérez Galdós on Tuesday 20th October

The jazz pianist Brad Mehldau, acknowledged as one of the most innovative musicians of our time, together with the other members of the trio, is to perform themes from his last piece of work

The numerous awards achieved and the praises of the specialised critics all guarantee that the Brad Mehldau Trio is one of the finest jazz groups of our time and, one can almost state, one of the best trios of its genre. After this introduction, the group is to going to offer a unique performance in the Teatro Pérez Galdós of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this Tuesday 20th October, at 20.30 hours.

Together with Larry Grenadier (bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums), the pianist Brad Mehldau is to present the successful pieces from his last album, Brad Mehldau Trio Live, an album which reflects Meldau’s numerous influences and innovative character. This pianist is characterised for his being able to take a risk and his unconditional love for Music, with a capital M. His training in classical music, and his being brought into the world of jazz at an early age, whilst at the same time still being able to enjoy rock and pop music in his youth, have all aided in transforming Mehldau into a complete musician, open to fusion without omitting his professional seal that has earned him so many hits.

Stunning career

The jazz pianist Brad Mehldau has been recording and performing non-stop since the mid-nineties, most commonly appearing with his own group, the Brad Mehldau Trio. In 1996, he reached an agreement with Warner Bros to create his first five albums and in 2004 launched his first recording for Nonesuch, entitled “Brad Mehldau: Live in Tokyo”. After ten fruitful years recording with his trio, Brad replaced the drummer Jorge Rossy for Jeff Ballard in 2005. His first album with the new trio, “Brad Mehldau Trio Live”, was an unprecedented success story and was widely hailed by critics as one of the finest trio performances of the decade.

Above all else, Mehldau is an improviser, able to surprise and delight audiences in equal measure through the sheer spontaneity of his musical creativeness. This has led to collaborations not only in the recording studio but also on stage with the likes of Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter and John Scofield.

His music has featured in films such as Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut” and Wim Wender’s “Million Dollar Hotel”. He also composed the soundtrack for the French film “Ma Femme Est Une Actrice” and was commissioned by Carnegie Hall to create two piano and voice pieces, namely “The Blue Estuaries” and “The Book of Hours: Love Poems to God”, both of which were brought to life in 2005 by the acclaimed classical music soprano, Renée Fleming.
