Indication of our identity
Several years have gone by since the re-opening of the Teatro Pérez Galdós on 14th April 2007 and the satisfaction and delight brought to us has been enormous. An undeniable indication of our cultural and social identity, this building, more than just a scenic, musical and artistic area in all aspects has been converted into an integral part of the history of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Hungarian National Ballet with “Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Mendelssohn in 2008; the opera “Figaro’s Wedding” by Mozart and “The Wandering Dutchman” by Wagner in 2009; Rafael Pérez Sierra’s adapted version of “The Merchant of Venice” and “Stabat Mater” by Rossini, performed by the unrivaled soprano Ainoa Arteta, both in 2012, to name but a few of the staged productions performed on stage of this outstanding theatre since its re-opening four years ago.
The architectural magnitude of this work has been magnificently combined with an annual program suited to all tastes, the classical music lover and the styles that are remembered at all times as well as the hits and new trends. In keeping with the latter the following shows have been performed on stage from the musical phenomenon “Mamma Mia!” to “Chicago” to “The Sound of Music”.
Our Teatro Pérez Galdós, over one hundred years old, raised its curtains for the first time in 1880. It can be said that the Teatro, despite going through some difficult times, for example the fire that caused the first renovation works by the brothers Miguel and Néstor Martín Fernández de la Torre resulting in the successful re-opening on 28th May, has never stopped being a solemn area evoking rewarding emotions that live on in the memory of many people and stay engraved in the mind of everyone.
